PPS for high-temperature resistant components with food or drinking water contact
In addition to the more than 250 available PPS grades, DIC Corporation offers the new product DIC.PPS FZ-2140-F3 BLACK. This glass-fiber reinforced polyphenylene sulfide was developed to meet all requirements for food contact applications as described in European Regulation EU 10/2011 and by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
Food Contact Approvals
All ingredients of DIC.PPS FZ-2140-F3 BLACK are listed in EU Regulation 10/2011 and its amendments concerning plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.
The PPS polymer (CAS No. 25212-74-2) used in the formulation of the new grade is listed under Food Contact Notification (FCN) 1731. Based on the formulations provided by the suppliers of the other ingredients, DIC.PPS FZ-2140-F3 complies with applicable FDA regulations and is therefore suitable for articles intended for repeated contact with all types of food under use conditions A through H as described in Table 2 of Regulation 21 CFR 173.300 (d).
The new grade is additionally approved by NSF according to NSF/ANSI 51 for food applications.

Drinking Water Approvals
Complementing its food contact approvals, DIC.PPS FZ-2140-F3 BLACK complies with all relevant regulations for drinking water applications.
The product is certified for contact with drinking water according to European standards ACS, WRAS, DVGW Worksheet W270, and KTW, as well as the American standard NSF/ANSI 61. DIC.PPS FZ-2140-F3 BLACK thus complements the existing DIC.PPS portfolio for drinking water applications.
In addition to material approvals, existing food and drinking water regulations require processors to provide proof of suitability for manufactured articles concerning defined migration limits.
Beyond food contact and drinking water approvals, the new material offers proven typical PPS properties, such as excellent resistance to heat, chemicals, and hot water, as well as low creep tendency. The polymer is inherently non-flammable and is UL94 V-0 listed by Underwriters Laboratories without the addition of flame retardants. This unique combination of outstanding properties provides designers in the food industry with design freedom and significant cost savings in a market with continuously increasing regulatory restrictions.
Plastoplan Kunststoffe is responsible for the distribution of DIC.PPS in Austria.
