DURABIO™ is an innovative, bio-based engineering plastic that combines the best properties of polycarbonate (PC) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). All this with a clear focus on sustainability.
The material impresses with its outstanding optical and mechanical properties. These include first-class light transmission, high UV resistance, and excellent impact strength. At the same time,
DURABIO™ is heat- and scratch-resistant, making it ideal for
demanding applications in industry, the consumer goods sector, and the
automotive industry.
Sustainability Meets Performance
DURABIO™ is a partially bio-based high-performance plastic. It is produced from isosorbide, which is derived from sorbitol, a plant-based raw material available worldwide. As a result, DURABIO™ offers a more sustainable alternative to conventional engineering plastics without compromising on quality or design.
A wide range of applications
Thanks to its material properties, DURABIO™ is particularly well-suited for modern applications with high design and functional requirements:
Touchscreens: scratch- and impact-resistant with an excellent optical surface
Optical films: high transparency with low birefringence Vehicle interiors: unpainted high-gloss surfaces for trim, covers, and frames
Vehicle exterior parts: ideal for radiator grilles and pillar covers with a high-gloss black finish
DURABIO™ combines innovative material technology with sustainable thinking—for future-oriented products and sophisticated designs.
The partially bio-based material is a product of Mitsubishi Chemical
Performance Polymers and is available in Austria through Plastoplan Kunststoffe.
