SABIC SHPP is introducing new high-performance materials designed to advance vehicle design, functionality, and sustainability. The focus is on innovative compounds containing recycled content, as well as solutions for thermal management and optical applications in modern vehicle systems.
A highlight is the new LNP™ ELCRIN™ SLX2373RCC and SLX2375RCC compounds, which are based on post-consumer recycled materials. Despite containing 30% and 45% recycled content, respectively, these materials offer excellent weather resistance, high impact strength, and outstanding colorability. They are particularly suitable for high-quality, injection-molded exterior parts with a durable high-gloss finish. At the same time, they enable a reduction in emissions since painting processes can be eliminated, and they support the circular economy through improved recyclability.
Examples of applications for the material include shark fin antennas or heated ADAS radomes.
SABIC has also developed the new LNP™ KONDUIT™ WTF2C compound for applications in advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). The material offers high thermal conductivity and is ideal for radar and control unit housings. It enables the replacement of die-cast aluminum, thereby reducing weight and lowering system costs. In addition, the compound is compatible with established manufacturing processes such as laser welding and hot riveting.
With the new EXTEM™ RH1017UCL, SABIC introduces a high-performance optical polymer designed to meet the demands of modern sensor technologies. It withstands lead-free reflow soldering processes and is suitable for applications such as sensor lenses in driver monitoring systems or for high-speed data transmission in future vehicle architectures.
Sabic SHPP materials also offer significant advantages in the field of automotive lighting. ULTEM™ plastics meet high temperature requirements and enable complex designs, such as those required for digital matrix LED headlights. They reduce weight, minimize outgassing, and allow for direct metallization of components such as lens cylinders, spacers, mounts, and reflectors.
For sophisticated design solutions, such as backlit automotive components, the LNP™ ELCRES™ SLX1271D copolymer is one of the materials used. This material enables high-quality, UV-resistant high-gloss surfaces without the need for painting and supports innovative lighting concepts. Examples of applications include illuminated front grilles.
With these specialty materials, SABIC underscores its expertise in developing innovative solutions that meet the automotive industry’s growing demands for performance, design, and sustainability.
